Randles is not just beautiful — it’s beautifully sustainable.

At Randles, sustainability is now a commitment woven into the fabric of our operations. We’re on a continuous journey to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute positively to our community and the planet. Our guests come from all over the world to experience the pristine beauty of Killarney National Park, the Ring of Kerry, and the charming local culture. Preserving this natural capital ensures that future generations, and future visitors, can enjoy it just as much as we do today.

1. Relaxing yet Sustainable Hot Showers

In 2020, we replaced our gas-fuelled calorifiers with a high-efficiency Air Source Heat Pump system. This transition allows us to run domestic hot water using renewable energy, significantly reducing our dependency on fossil fuels.

  • Energy Savings: 250,000 kWh per annum
  • Cost Reduction: 40% annually
  • CO₂ Emissions Saved: 52,000 kg/year

2. Low-Temp AHU for Smarter Climate Control

We also introduced a low-temperature Air Handling Unit (AHU), a key upgrade for energy-smart ventilation and temperature regulation.

  • Energy Savings: 400,000 kWh per annum
  • Cost Reduction: 60% annually
  • CO₂ Emissions Saved: 82,000 kg/year

3. Running on Sunshine: Solar PV Installations

Installation of 30kW Solar PV Panels that now generate 50% of our daily electricity needs. Yes, we’re running on sunshine.

  • Energy Savings: 28,294 kWh per annum
  • CO₂ Emissions Saved: 13,451 kg/year
  • Equivalent Trees Planted: 20

4. Less Waste, More Wonder

We’ve embraced a zero-to-landfill goal, composting food waste, reducing single-use plastics, and working with local recycling partners.

5. Smarter Water Use in Every Room

Low-flow shower heads and dual-flush toilets are the unsung heroes of our eco-guest rooms. We also encourage towel and linen reuse to save gallons of water daily .

6. Fresh, Local, and Sustainable Goods

Our chefs are obsessed — in the best way — with local suppliers. From Dingle Goats Cheese to our Locally-sourced filler steak or our Muckross gin & tonic cheesecake, every bite on your plate supports sustainable Irish producers.

7. Encouraging our Guests to Join the Movement

We believe sustainability is a team effort. We provide information in guest rooms encouraging responsible practices, such as recycling and conserving water. Your small actions contribute to a bigger impact!

Coffee Cup Project: We also become a proud member of the Killarney Coffee Cup Project, aiming to save one million coffee cups from being sent to landfill each year.

Beyond the Stats: Why Our Green Mission Matters

Our sustainability initiatives aren’t just about meeting targets; they contribute to:

  • A Healthier Environment: Directly reducing pollution and conserving precious natural resources.
  • A Better Guest Experience: Knowing that your stay supports responsible tourism, enhancing your peace of mind.
  • Stronger Local Economy: Supporting local businesses and communities through our purchasing choices.

At Randles Hotel Killarney, we’re immensely proud of the steps we’re taking to be a responsible steward of this incredible part of the world. We invite you to experience our commitment firsthand during your next visit. Come and see how luxury and sustainability can beautifully coexist in the heart of the Kingdom.
